Final Paint of the Summer

Many thanks to Mark Solomon for the excellent job of painting the eastern six cabins last weekend! This completes one of our major 2007 goals; the exterior renovation of all twelve sleeping cabins.

Looking for a Plumber

We're in desperate need of a licensed plumbing contractor to do the kitchen, showers and infirmary plumbing. We'll be using pex on these projects, so installation should go pretty easily.

Cabin Enclosures Completed

Thanks to Jim Whitlock's crew, the final six cabins were enclosed this weekend. New windows and doors, chauking and paint prep are now done. Exterior painting will be completed in the next couple weeks.

Wendy's family completed a rehab of the pump house, including a fresh coat of paint.

Thanks guys!

Work Shop Needed for the Winter

We'll be rehabbing a couple of commercial stoves and an oven over the course of the winter. Anyone have a heat-able work shop we could use?

Upcoming Work Projects

The Diller Link Group will be undertaking the chalking and painting the exterior of the kitchen and dining shelter the weekend of July 14-15.

The high schoolers will be chipping brush for trail maintance on July 19-21.

Camp Work Update

Lots of progress since my last post!

Last week Leonard Scharf and I delivered and installed a 30' power pole for an additional 400 amp electrical service. Electricians from Brian Day Electric have completed the power panel and other work and passed the initial PP&E inspection.

Richard has completed digging electrical trenches to all 12 cabins and 11 RV sites. A huge amount of work, given the rocky soil and tight spaces between the trees. Great job Richard!

Donna has gotten lots done on the cabins and kitchen. With Bruce Page's help, she power washed all the pots, pans and racks in the kitchen as well as the tile floor in the kitchen.

In other areas, Mike McFarland constructed two very nice boat mooring floats that we'll install next week. Dave Sills weatherproofed the railings on several cabins, and assisted in some plumbing repairs.

Fall Hunting Camp?

Would anyone be interested in a fall hunting camp at Apserkaha? We'd keep it real simple; an early breakfast, guys go off-property to hunt for the day, then have a good supper and campfire or whatever in the evening. Maybe 2-3 days total. The cabins should have heat and light by then and would be available as would the RV sites. Anyone interested?

This week's work

Richard (our camp caretaker) and I are making preparations for the installation of electricity to the twelve sleeping cabins this week. On Saturday we'll be moving a trencher to camp and begin cutting trenches for the installation of underground power lines.

Next week, we're scheduled to install a 30' power pole for the main line off the transformer and a meter post as well.

This weekend we have a work crew of approximately 14 working on brush clearing. Anyone who wants to join us for the weekend or just for the day is welcome.

Inaugural Blog

Ten minutes ago I didn't know what a blog was, now I'm a blogger.

I'm wanting to provide a better way of keeping the TRF body, and anyone else, updated on the fast-moving progress at Camp Apserkaha.

For those who aren't already up to speed; Camp Apserkaha is a county-owned organizational camp located on the Southern shore of Howard Prairie Lake. TRF has recently assumed a five-year lease on the camp.

The camp is located on 66 wooded acres, and has almost one-half mile of lake-frontage. Currently, there is a dining shelter with commercial kitchen, twelve sleeping cabins, and spots for RV and tent camping at the camp.

We anticipate having a wide variety of ministries at the camp in coming years, including adult retreats, youth camps, Super Tuesday outings, as well as link group retreats and family camps.

Feel free to post, forward and reply to this blog.

More to come.
